The production process effects how easy it is to output a document for different media. It is a key to saving time and money.

Example of a high-efficiency, multi-purpose production process:

Define your audience and the document requirements:
- Marketing parameters
- User demographics
- Formats; web, print, PDF, XML
- Distribution
- Update frequency
Create a "MASTER Source-file" data repository (db) of original source materials to draw from (text, images, multi-media, etc.). Define; standardized file naming schema, directory structure protocol, and XMP metadata policy.
Image Processing: Duplicate the MASTER image file as many times as the number of different formats needed. Prepare each duplicate for its intended use (one step).
Copy: text is tricky. People do not tolerate reading as much copy on screen as they do in print. One effective approach is to write for print, then edit for screen "scanners" (one step). For language translations, work from the MASTER text document (keep both documents together for simultanious changes). Create text masters in XML if desired. XML files can be imported to Adobe© InDesign.
Use cross-platform Adobe® Creative Suite applications to produce the needed screen/print formats (one step). Employ automation and time-saving features to streamline the production/revision process (e.g.; styles, automatic layout, etc).
